What the ????

Questions are marked by a sign that can furrow the brow and send the mind on a quest for answers. Be they rhetorical, theoretical, existential, practical, emotional, educational or mundane, questions surround our lives and saturate the experience of being human. Why? When? Where? How? Whom? Sometimes we ask these things and sometimes we do not. When do we ask these things and when do we not? How and why are questions expressed, how and why are they not? What are your big questions and little mysteries? What are the one-word answers, the lengthy diatribes, the evasions and explications that accompany the queries and uncertainties that dog your experiences? How do you mark the question?

Submissions will be open until mid-January 2010. Contact the editor with any queries.

The new issue is live, and it features a smorgasbord of things you can get your teeth into... Keep your scrolling finger ready: we've got more short stories than ever - they need a nice chunk of time, a wee bit of concentration (don't be distracted by RSS feeds or the like) and a cup of tea at your side... Yummy... You might want to dim the lights or close the blinds to view the selection of surreal and esoteric short films... Slip on your headphones and close your eyes for an underwater sound adventure... And open them again to drink up the variety of visual artworks and photography... Dip into the poetry if you only have a few minutes to spare, and come back when you have more time for the rest... The wide variety of works assembled here explore the silence, absence, hesitation and irony that is ... Enjoy...

Two new works have recently been added to the $ issue. An audio track sounding the call to "bring the god of holy profit down" by David van Rensburg and a video piece, exploring status, wealth and consumerism in the setting of a luxury boutique by Maxim and Romy Northover. Incidentally, another video piece in the issue is made by twins - Caucozoida by Jean and Zinaid Meeran.

If you were in Luxembourg the weekend of March 12th, we hope you visited the Colophon WE LOVE MAGAZINES Symposium which took place around the city. And if you timed it right, you might have heard a special ITCH-compiled playlist of all-South African tunes in the magazine lounge.
