In Portugal, Fatima is small town that relies upon religious tourism for economic survival. The site of reported visions that took place in 1917, many devoted Catholics visit it. There are stores dedicated to selling every type of Fatima statue imaginable, as well as other saint-branded items. It is a big business. I am portuguese and catholic . And each time i visit Fatima , not the town , but the " Santuário " , i have a sense of peace and serenity that i have never found elsewhere . But i also regret the quantaty of stores and cheap merchandise that exist there today , in the town . I believe we have lost our path , and i sincerely hope we find it
