Faith in the Streets

By  Anneli Marinovich

Image Gallery

The series of photos was taken in Naples, Italy in August 2007. Each street tells a different tale and the subtle relationship between ancient religion and modern life is visible everywhere.

Photo 1 - Titled: Religion institutionalised / ostracized?
Shrines in the streets embody belief - trivialised by graffiti spray painted on the walls.

Photo 2 -Titled: Truth revealed / concealed?
Jesus' face appears from behind a tattered advertising poster as if revealing truth behind layers of social reality.

Photo 3 - Titled: Sins absolved / swept away?
Saint Padre Pio absolving thousands of their sins... or is sin just swept away - his dust pan tucked behind a drain pipe?

Pictures tell a story...so apt. Your summation and interpretation is stunning.
