The "Captive" series consists of site-specific wall drawings and woks on paper that discuss captivity as a mental state. These large murals and supplementary drawings portray psychological imprisonment. By eliminating any excessive elements and using only charcoal and tape, the drawings are reduced to exist directly on the wall, in a monochromatic palate. Drawing focus on the formal elements of an image; line, tone, texture and space. By creating with the intent to destroy, the act becomes a performance. As Yves Klein stated "My paintings are but the ashes of my art."
