The photos are from a series titled "AD ME" which I took of neighborhood children posing as New York Times fashion ads. I wanted them to explore the way images were constructed and manipulated, and to project their reality onto the fantasy of advertising, exposing the differences of race and class. It was very interesting to me that almost every child was first drawn to seek the very few ads that featured people of color, highlighting their general invisibility in media, still, after all these decades of criticism.
