The lady in the painting displays a smiley face, a happy face; her smile indicates her pride. I wanted to show that whatever faces we have, whatever freaks we might be, difference is our strength. We have to keep our smiles to confront an unfriendly environment. She is a bearded lady and she is beautiful. This painting was inspired by Jennifer Miller, who works in the circus and is also a poet and professor in Brooklyn, New York.
Smiles can be deep.
